Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive treatment performed by our experts at AVIC using catheters and embolic material under fluoroscopic guidance.

Via a small incision in the upper thigh, a catheter is used to navigate to the uterine arteries which supply the fibroids.  Small embolic particles are then delivered to cutoff the blood supply to the fibroids while retaining the viability of the uterus.  UFE is performed in the interventional radiology suite under conscious sedation.  Recovery is significantly shorter than for surgeries such as hysterectomy or myomectomy.  Numerous studies have shown safe and excellent results for heavy menses, pelvic pain, and bulk related symptoms.

Cynthia Bailey from The Real Housewives of Atlanta had a UFE and was recently featured on The Doctors.
